Meet the Superintendent

Shane Barnette

Welcome to Cullman County Schools! What a great time to be a part of the Cullman County School System. There are Exceptional Educational Experiences being offered on all of our campuses for Everyone, Every Day! That is what has initiated our E5 focus. Whether you are a current student or family member, a past student, or a potential student, you can feel a sense of pride in the accomplishments of our school system. Our schools are the heartbeat of their local communities and there is a strong tradition of excellence throughout each of them. Our system is fortunate to have caring and dedicated stakeholders throughout that always make decisions based on what’s best for children. Once again, welcome to Cullman County Schools!

Dr. Shane Barnette began a career in retail management while paying his way through college. After receiving his degree in Comprehensive Sciences from Athens State University he taught College Prep Biology and Human Anatomy at West Point High School for nine years. He left this position to be the Assistant Principal at West Point Elementary. After serving there for three years he became the principal at West Point Intermediate, leading that school for eight years.

He has earned his Masters and Educational Specialist degrees in administration from the University of Alabama and his Doctorate from Samford University. Dr. Barnette became the Superintendent of Cullman County Schools on March 21, 2016.

Dr. Barnette has been married to his best friend, Kristi Barnette, for more than 25 years. She teaches at Good Hope Primary School. They have three sons: Ethan, Caleb, and Noah. When they are not at a school or church function, they enjoy spending time together in their backyard.
