The Cullman County Commission on Education at its May 20, 2024 meeting approved Superintendent Dr. Shane Barnette’s recommendation to hire Dr. Brad Stapler as the next principal of Fairview High School. Stapler replaces Dr. Johnny Whaley, who is leaving Cullman County Schools after more than 20 years of service to pursue a new opportunity with the Alabama State Department of Education.
Dr. Stapler is a veteran educator with Aggie roots, having graduated from Fairview in 1996. He is currently the Assistant Principal and Career Tech Director at Arab High School. Prior to his time in Arab, Dr. Stapler served as Principal of Brewer High School and Cotaco School in Morgan County.
“Growing up in the halls of Fairview High School, I developed a profound appreciation for its values and traditions,” said Stapler. “I understand the unique spirit that defines this institution. Now, to have the privilege of leading it forward is an honor beyond measure.” “While we will miss Dr. Whaley and we are appreciative of his service, we are excited about the experienced leadership that Dr. Stapler brings to Fairview,” said Dr. Shane Barnette, Cullman County School Superintendent. “Being an alumnus of Fairview and still involved in the community, Dr. Stapler will bring his passion to lead Fairview to continue their rich tradition of excellence.”
Dr. Brad Stapler will transition to his new role effective July 1.
Below is a letter from Dr. Stapler to the Fairview Community
To the Fairview Community,
I am thrilled to announce my return to Fairview High School, this time as its principal. For me, this opportunity is not just a professional achievement; it's a homecoming to the place that shaped me into the person I am today.
Growing up in the halls of Fairview High School, I developed a profound appreciation for its values and traditions. As a member of the Class of 1996, I understand the unique spirit that defines this institution. Now, to have the privilege of leading it forward is an honor beyond measure.
My journey back to Fairview High School follows years of dedicated service in education. Having served as the Assistant Principal and Career Tech Director at Arab High School, as well as the Principal at A.P. Brewer High School and Cotaco School, I bring a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to student success.
Education is a family affair in the Stapler household. My wife has been a devoted educator, currently at Arab Elementary and formerly at West Elementary in Cullman, while our children have flourished in the nurturing environment of Arab High School. This shared passion for education underscores our family's dedication to empowering students and communities.
One of the pivotal figures from Fairview who guided me towards administration was former Fairview High School principal, Mr. Pattillo. His firm and fair demeanor left a lasting impression on me, and I have always respected his leadership.
As I embark on this new chapter at Fairview High School, I am reminded of the words from Jeremiah 29:11: "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." With faith and determination, I am committed to realizing the full potential of every student entrusted to our care.
I am eager to collaborate with the exceptional faculty, staff, students, and families of Fairview High School to uphold its legacy of excellence and foster a culture of growth and achievement. Together, we will continue to inspire and prepare the next generation of leaders.
I am grateful for the warm welcome I have received from the Fairview community, and I look forward to serving alongside you all in the exciting journey ahead.
Sincerely,
Brad Stapler
Principal, Fairview High School
