School Organizational Plan

The Cullman County Board of Education at its February 20, 2025 board meeting approved a new organizational plan for our schools. With district enrollment at record-high numbers, combined with a need for additional PreK classroom space, our goal is to implement the following enhancements to learning beginning with the 2025-2026 school year.

Hanceville

Hanceville Elementary currently serves more than 650 students in grades K-5, which is the most students under a single principal in our district. A long-overdue second lunchroom was recently added to the Hanceville campus. Due to continued high enrollment, the Hanceville community will see the opening of Hanceville Primary School beginning next school year.

Hanceville Primary will serve students in grades PreK-2. Hanceville Elementary will serve students in grades 3-5. The existing elementary building on Commercial Street, which is currently vacant, will be heavily renovated and will soon welcome students again. That building will also serve as the office for the elementary school.

Hanceville has never been able to participate in Alabama’s First Class PreK program, primarily due to lack of space. These changes will also allow Hanceville to have a PreK program beginning this fall.

Holly Pond

We are also excited about the growth in the Holly Pond community. Due to increased enrollment numbers, Holly Pond K-8 will return to a separate Elementary School and Middle School.

Holly Pond Elementary will serve students in grades K-5, while Holly Pond Middle will serve students in grades 6-8.

Welti & Harmony

Welti Elementary will be transitioning to a PreK-1st grade campus. Harmony will be transitioning to a PreK-5th grade campus. The additional space at both schools will allow for the creation of additional PreK classrooms.

These changes will also allow PreK access across our entire district. While many of our campuses will still have limited space for PreK classrooms, children from throughout Cullman County may attend PreK at the additional spaces at Welti and Harmony. Our hope is to continue to expand our PreK programs so that every child will have access to PreK opportunities.

In addition, the current upper grade students at Harmony and Welti will have the opportunity to attend a larger campus with multiple classrooms in the same grade. By doing this, it will give these students additional opportunities that they do not currently have in a single-classroom setting.

Cullman County Schools is always looking for ways to be more responsible with the resources we have, and these changes reflect that. We are committed to providing Exceptional Educational Experiences for Everyone Every Day.
